sound and vibration

sound meditation

why is sound an important healing tool?

For centuries yogis, traditional healers and wellness practitioners have been using the power of sound and vibration to induce relaxation, meditation and a state in which our bodies can heal. As humans, we are at our core, energetic, vibrational beings. We are all made up of trillions of cells that are constantly vibrating. We were born vibrating at a particular frequency, however the fluctuations of life can shift us out of that equilibrium. In sound healing, we are shifting frequencies in order to come back into a state of balance and harmony.

how do private and group sessions differ?

In a private session, Stephanie will discuss your reasons for coming, and will tailor your session to you. She uses vibration to shift your stagnant energy, and bring you back to your personal vibrational frequency. In a group setting, Stephanie will create a live soundscape for the purpose of meditation, and to bring you into a deep state of relaxation. It’s in this state that our body inhibits the release of cortisol, our stress hormone, and allows the body and mind time to rest and repair.

what can i expect in a group sound meditation?

During a Sound Meditation Stephanie will play a range of instruments, providing a live soundscape for you to relax and meditate to. She will use her voice and other instruments that may include Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, gongs, drums, tuning forks and more. These live sounds produce a vibration that taps into our body’s natural vibrations and allows you to experience a profound state of meditation and relaxation. It is when we are in this state that we are able to create a connection to our innermost self and ultimately, a higher consciousness.

what does a group session actually involve?

It could not be easier to participate in a Sound Meditation, all you really need to do is be present. You might start with Pranayama (gentle breathing exercises), or a visualisation meditation. After this you will be invited to lie down on your mat and get comfortable, for most sessions a blanket and a bolster are provided. Your comfort is important to us, so unlike some other forms of meditation, movement is okay. If you want to roll onto your side, roll onto your side, if you need to go to the bathroom, go for it. Once comfortable, all you need to do is close your eyes and experience the soundscape.

what should i expect to feel?

People’s experiences of Sound Meditation can vary greatly. In group sessions, Stephanie’s intention centers around creating a calm and relaxing sound environment for you to meditate in and potentially create a connection to your innermost self, or a higher consciousness. With this intention, many people experience a deep sense of peace and relaxation, and some even fall asleep. Some people report having out of body experiences, and others a deeply spiritual occurrence. Many people arrive at a session with a question, or an idea they’ve been thinking about and gain a sense of clarity. At the same time working with sound and vibration can cause energetic shifts and if you are experiencing stagnant energy, or are in a heightened emotional state, this can make the experience more of an emotional journey. Ultimately, a lot of it comes down to what you want to get out of the session.

who can benefit from sound meditation?

Everyone! As everyone experiences Sound Meditations differently, it can be really fascinating participating for the first time and seeing how you respond. Many people who find other meditation techniques difficult, find that having music as a point of focus is a great starting point for building a consistent meditation practice. Numerous scientific studies have shown that music and meditation have positive effects for people dealing with stress, depression and anxiety, and help to boost your immune system.
